If you will be using our Heavy-Duty Tripod in an area where it may be exposed to wind gusts in excess of 50 mph we recommend anchoring the tripod with our High-Wind Option Package. When set up according to our instructions, our Heavy-Duty Tripod can generally withstand winds as high as 50 mph. (This will vary depending upon the size of the dish that is mounted.) Our instructions include recommended modifications to the tripod that can be made to allow a much wider leg spread, which increases the footprint area by 100%. We also suggest replacing the Heavy-Duty Bungee Cord with a ratcheting tie-down strap to create a solid anchor to the ground. For ground surfaces that are too hard to insert the Ground Screw Stake, we recommend hammering in two 12" galvanized spikes at opposing angles. This modification to allow the wider leg spread involves drilling 3 holes in the tripod feet.
We now offer this as an upgrade option when you are purchasing the Heavy-Duty Tripod. You can also purchase the option components and drill the three holes yourself, as complete instructions are included.
When purchasing the High-wind Option with our Heavy-Duty Tripod the option package includes:
Drill three 7/16" holes, one in each tripod foot.
16' #12 Zinc plated chain with hook end.
One Heavy-Duty Ratcheting Tie-Down.
Two 12" Galvanized Spikes.
Complete instructions.
When purchasing the High-wind Option without our Heavy-Duty Tripod the option package includes:
